Blazers' Aldridge becomes team's 15th All-Star

After what many thought was a snub last year, LaMarcus Aldridge is finally an All-Star. The Trail Blazers' forward earned his spot on the Western Conference team in voting by the conference's coaches. The All-Star starters were selected by in fans voting. Aldridge, who is in his sixth season, is averaging 23.3 points and 8.5 rebounds.

While there's no reason to panic after two straight losses at home, the Portland Trail Blazers are certainly concerned that some larger issues have crept into the Rose Garden. Dropping a game in Portland was a rarity before this week. The Blazers were 11-1 at home, which went a long way toward boosting the team's overall standing in the Western Conference.

The Trail Blazers were a good team for about 12 minutes of their 103-96 loss to Houston Wednesday night at the Rose Garden.

That came from midway through the third quarter—when Portland trailed 69-50—to midway through the final period, when the Blazers had erased the deficit and tied the score at 82-82.

The Blazers (14-11) played with a purpose over that stretch that frustrates coach Nate McMillan, who wants that kind of performance on a more regular basis.

"Part of the challenge (as coach) is to figure out the right combinations of players, motivating these guys, getting them to play both ways," McMillan said. "We play in spurts."

Portland is 11-3 at home despite losing its last two.
